There are 3 Types of Goals
1: True Priorities
These are the ones that are important enough for us to stick with throughout the year.
2: Part-way Priorities
The important ones, but we devote little or sporadic thought and energy to so will only be accomplished in part.
3: Pipe Dreams
Goals we make in a flurry of enthusiasm, but don’t stand the test of time.
Prioritising Your Goals
Most of us have heard of S.M.A.R.T goals; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. Even though it doesn’t fit the SMART mnemonic, I add a very important ‘P’: Prioritised!
The bottom line is that we will each achieve some of the goals that we set for the year – and not others.
It is important to know which goals fit into which group. If we expect to achieve the goals we are less committed to, we can become discouraged and give ourselves a hard time when we fail to realise them and the whole concept of setting goals will crash.
Ask yourself this question: "When I have set goals in this area before, have I achieved them?"
If the answer is 'no', this signals the goal wasn't a true priority. Although life circumstances can change, we routinely follow the same pattern of achieving what is really important to us and not achieving what isn't.

Goals Are Like a Bank Account
If we achieve a goal, we make a deposit into the account of self-confidence. If we don’t achieve it, we make a withdrawal from this account. This phenomenon can lead to significant levels of self-doubt – even self-loathing. It is therefore important to be clear on what our priorities truly are.
When faced with goal setting, organise them into these three groups. Then prioritise each goal within each group. This way, you will focus on what is truly important and have a far greater chance of success and greater confidence.
